Doppler - a certified B Corp, and force for good
Some of you may have seen that we recently became an accredited B Corp here at Doppler. It was almost a year to the day that we received our accreditation, and what a whirlwind that year was! We learnt so much through the application process, and now we're absolutely delighted to be part of such a massive force for good in the world of business.
What is B Corps?
B Corps is all about transforming the economy to benefit all people, communities, and the planet. They analyse the entirety of a business's operations, including five key impact areas: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers. Through a rigorous certification process, applicants are required to reach a benchmark score of over 80 and provide evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices, such as energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity, and corporate transparency.
At Doppler, we're excited to be part of a community of 4,900 businesses globally certified as B Corps. The B Corp community represents a vast range of industries and sizes, with over 750 companies in the UK and includes brands such as The Guardian, innocent, Patagonia, The Body Shop, and Abel & Cole.
The world is changing
Over the last few years, as a society, we have become more aware of significant global issues like climate change, leading to a noticeable shift towards a more conscious business model. This has created space for Corporate Social Responsibility, and this can be implemented in a variety of ways, for example:
Reducing your carbon footprint and positive environmental policy changes
Improving staff/HR policies, including Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
Signing up for fairtrade initiatives and opportunities
Charitable giving
Community or charitable volunteering
Investments in social and environmental organisations
According to research, 85% of Millennials and 80% of Gen Z rank the environment as the most crucial factor when deciding which brands to shop with. So, whilst we don't believe profit is the sole end goal of our business, there is a financial benefit to engaging with corporate social responsibility.
It's about people, as well as profit
There are no growth hacks here. At Doppler, we believe in creating sustainable growth through mindful marketing. Our Founder, Danielle, has come from the world of Tech start-ups: running, flying, rocketing into high growth strategies. She felt like there had to be more to work and business than just unsustainable, high-growth strategies and making more, more, more money, so she pivoted into changing the world of work, marketing, and creating a space where enough is just… enough. There's more to life than just money, there's also relationships, joy, memories, balance, and the same applies to business..
Following a path for more sustainable marketing, Doppler uses the idea of balancing the doughnut, coined by Kate Raworth. Kate felt that humanity's greatest challenge in the 21st century is to meet the needs of everyone within the means of the planet, ensuring that everyone has access to life's essentials, such as food, housing, a political voice etc., whilst not putting extra pressure on Earth's resources. It's a powerful approach to balancing our needs and resources; Kate Raworth gives an interesting Ted Talk on balancing the doughnut.
We love the idea of balancing the doughnut and how it's based on our relationship with each other and this planet we call home. If we base our economics on how to be more sustainable with our wants and needs, we'll end up with a more stable, healthy world. We'll end up with balance. We'll end up with enough.
And this is where sustainable, mindful marketing comes in. Ensuring that we're re-using, reducing, and recycling to create a more circular, balanced, and sustainable way of being, rather than always being on the lookout for the next big thing.
Supporting our community
By following the doughnut belief, we've also created a structure within Doppler that operates on 'pick what you can afford' pricing to ensure that our services are accessible and affordable for everyone. This creates a space of creativity and room for ideas to grow and be explored without the fear or shame of money holding anyone back. We provide various free resources, such as Funding My Dreams, which enables our community to access support and create a fulfilling life doing what they love.
How does the gift economy work?
You pick your pricing based on where you are in your journey. There's no judgement on what you can afford. If you can afford more, your contribution gets reinvested into the community, supporting workshops, events, accessible coaching sessions, funding & consultancy support. We want to help as many people as possible reach their full potential and achieve their dreams.
